". . . while the musical partnership of Saffire - the Uppity Blues Women may be ending, their musical legacy is firmly established and will be enjoyed for many more years just as each of the members will establish more of their own legacy with their solo careers. Like Jim Brown leaving professional football, "Havin' the Last Word" has Saffire ending their run while still performing at the highest level."2009: Saffire's Last Year Saffire was formed in 1984, and 2009 will mark our 25th anniversary. We will celebrate a quarter-century of fond memories and achievements. However, this 25th year will also be the year of our final tour and our final release as a group. In these years, we have had the opportunity to make music all over the world. It has been a dream come true for all of us -- to make a living doing what we love. We've shared a magic chemistry that is much more than our individual talents. So you might ask, "Well then, why are you ending Saffire?" For many years our visions coincided, but as we have aged and grown, our individual needs have changed. Our love of the music and our love for each other has not changed. As we move forward in different musical directions, we look forward to providing support and encouragement to each other. All three of us plan to continue performing in various configurations. (Please visit our individual websites: annrabson.com; andrafaye.com; adegbalola.com.) As Ann so clearly put it, she wants to be "musically promiscuous, instead of faithful to the same partners." Gaye and Andra say, "Ditto." About Saffire - The Uppity Blues WomenIt's not often that dreams come true. In the case of the acoustic blues trio, Saffire--The Uppity Blues Women,
that's just what happened. Over the course of nine recordings and thousands of gigs, the group has gone from virtual obscurity
to one of the most popular, witty, and just plain satisfying acoustic blues groups on the scene today. These women tear into
their material with passion, dedication, and originality. Every song they cover becomes theirs, and their originals
blend seamlessly with their interpretations. They are indeed the torchbearers for the original classic uppity blues women like
Bessie Smith, Sippie Wallace and Victoria Spivey.
